Memorial Hermann trauma institute renamed in honor of Dr. James H. "Red" Duke
The Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute has a new name. At the Circle of Life Gala on Saturday, they honored Dr. James H. "Red" Duke Jr. In his honor, they renamed the institute to "Memorial Hermann Red Duke Trauma Institute."

Houston emergency physician elected vice speaker of TMA’s House of Delegates
Houston emergency physician Arlo Weltge, MD, MPH, was re-elected vice speaker of the Texas Medical Association House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body. Delegates elected him during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference in Dallas. Dr. Weltge also has a wide variety of clinical experience in primary and specialty care. He currently practices emergency medicine at the Memorial Hermann Hospital Texas Trauma Institute, a Level I trauma center, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital in Houston.

Texas Deputy Shot 4 Times After Traffic Stop 'Ambush'
A Texas deputy who was shot four times after a late night traffic stop on Thursday is expected to survive, authorities said. Deputy Constable Alden Clopton, 48, an 11-year veteran and field training officer with the Harris County Constable Precinct 7, was the victim of an "ambush," Lt. Holland Jones told reporters. Clopton, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, suffered six wounds to his abdomen and chest, said Joseph Love, a surgeon at Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute, during the news conference. Love said that Clopton, who was still on a ventilator and feeding tubes but otherwise "doing quite well," would likely remain in the hospital for a week.

Mini mural honors legacy of larger-than-life hero Dr. Red Duke
On a Sunday afternoon in mid-March, two urban artists, armed with cans of spray paint, gathered at the corner of Fannin and Braeswood to honor the memory of a hero who made his own indelible mark on the Texas Medical Center. A true pioneer, in 1972 he became one of UTHealth’s first faculty members at its newly established medical school. Four years later, he helped to develop Memorial Hermann Life Flight and served as the medical director of the program for almost four decades.
