The late Dr. James "Red" Duke Jr. is often described as a Houston icon. Now Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center has brought together the images that show the many colorful sides of the beloved trauma surgeon.

Memorial Hermann trauma institute renamed in honor of Dr. James H. "Red" Duke
The Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute has a new name. At the Circle of Life Gala on Saturday, they honored Dr. James H. "Red" Duke Jr. In his honor, they renamed the institute to "Memorial Hermann Red Duke Trauma Institute."

Houston emergency physician elected vice speaker of TMA’s House of Delegates
Houston emergency physician Arlo Weltge, MD, MPH, was re-elected vice speaker of the Texas Medical Association House of Delegates, the association’s policymaking body. Delegates elected him during TexMed, TMA’s annual conference in Dallas. Dr. Weltge also has a wide variety of clinical experience in primary and specialty care. He currently practices emergency medicine at the Memorial Hermann Hospital Texas Trauma Institute, a Level I trauma center, and the Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital in Houston.

Telemedicine can be life-saving
On a late November afternoon, Bonnie McLeod lay in Matagorda Regional Medical Center, unable to move her left side. Nurses at the hospital weren't clear on what had happened to the 69-year-old woman. They needed a second opinion, quickly. A page was sent out for neurologist Dr. Teddy Wu, who was in his office at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, 80 miles away. But a few minutes later, with the flip of a switch, he appeared at the foot of McLeod's bed.
