Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute Receives Recertification of Highest Designation for Epilepsy Centers

The National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC) has recertified the Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program at the Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute at the Texas Medical Center (MNI) as a Level 4 epilepsy center, the highest level of epilepsy care.

To become a Level 4 center, programs must submit data from the past year and provide the most complex forms of intensive neurodiagnostics monitoring, as well as the most extensive treatment. Centers must also offer a broad range of epilepsy surgical procedures.

According to the NAEC, the Institute’s epilepsy program has “the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.”

“It’s an honor to uphold the tradition of being certified as a Level 4 center,” said Nitin Tandon, M.D., neurosurgeon and director of epilepsy surgery at the Institute and UTHealth. “The volume at the Texas Comprehensive Epilepsy Program has more than doubled in the past five years and this continued recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with the program. It’s their commitment that has allowed us to provide excellent care and take new innovative approaches.”
